Class: Antique
Description:

One of only 276 manufactured circa 1900-1910. A derivative of the 44-40 Winchester cartridge, the 38-40 never found the same level of popularity as its parent, resulting in limited production and scarcity on the current market. Included with the revolver is a photocopy of a factory letter, with a typed section that states that factory records are still pending, and a hand written section that claims the revolver was shipped to William Read & Sons of Boston on July 19, 1904. Fixed sights, with the two line address/patent dates on the barrel rib, "38 WINCHESTER CTG." on the left, matching numbers on the barrel, catch, cylinder and butt, and smooth mother of pearl grips.

Rating Definition:

Fine, with 20% of the original blue finish, concentrated in the protected areas with a mixed brown and gray patina overall, brighter gray on the grip straps and butt, and scattered spotting and scratches overall. The butt appears to have been polished. Grips are good, with some light chips and dings. Mechanically very good.
