Description:

This is an example of a Mexican Loop pattern holster with the cartridge belt manufactured by F.A. Meanea Saddlery, Cheyenne, Wyoming circa 1890-1900. This matched rig displays the craftsmanship of one of the Master Saddlers of the West. The right handed holster is constructed of heavy russet shirting leather and features a slight swell of the body profile between the integral loops. This design was to keep the pouch from riding up when the revolver was drawn. There is a tear drop shaped sewn in toe plug. Both these features are typical of the Montana and Wyoming made holsters. The holster is gracefully curved at the throat and has a deeply stamped border pattern with small stamped rosettes on the corners. The belt has a dark leather body with contrasting billets of skirting leather matching the holster. There are 53 loops for a small caliber. The belt has the usual nickeled "California" buckle with clipped corners. The makers stamp is on the upper center of the holster and on the belt loop strap.

Rating Definition:

Very good. The holster shows some minor wear and scuffs on the body and heavier wear on the rear skirt. The belt shows moderate use and some wear on the strap. The buckle retains almost all of the original nickel finish with some small area of oxidation where the finish has worn off. The stitching between a few of the cartridge loops has separated, otherwise the remaining stitching (holster included) remains tight.
