Description:

The included Certificate of Authenticity from The Antique Canon Superstore states this 60 inch cannon was recovered in South East Asia and dates from the 17th and 18th centuries and was most likely made in Brunei by the Portuguese. It is made in the traditional Lantaka fashion with a flared muzzle, post and notch sights, and is designed as a large swivel gun. It weighs 154 pounds with a 2 inch opening and would have been fixed to a vessel traveling the waters of the Asian archipelagos to fend off attackers or perhaps offensively, depending on the mentality of the crew. Villagers considered any vessel not fitted with cannons ill-equipped due to the prevalence of pirates and head hunters. Cannons were often passed down from generation to generation and were used for ceremonial purposes such as signaling an important event such as a birth as well as for militant use against enemies. Some of these canons were used for centuries right up to and even during the Filipino Insurrection in the early 20th century.

Rating Definition:

Very good. The cannon has verdigris overall and as such has a shipwrecked appearance that would make a great display piece.
