Description:

This fine Percussion Sporting rifle was manufactured by William Lawrence of Laconia, New Hampshire. According to the George F. Bacon's CENTRAL NEW HAMPSHIRE AND ITS LEADING BUSINESS MEN [sic] published in 1890, Lawrence was "one of few manufacturers of breechloading guns who [carried] out every process from forging to finishing" and originated from Groton, Massachusetts. He began manufacturing firearms and selling ammunition in Laconia in 1868 and "his guns have gained an unsurpassed reputation for accuracy, durability, ease of management and general efficiency. Their workmanship is a delight to the mechanical eye and no guns in the market will do better work under all conditions of use." The barrel is marked "WM.LAWRENCE./LACONIA.N.H." and "CAST STEEL" on the left barrel flat. The rifle features round target front and elevation adjustable notch rear sights with case hardened back action lock, hammer, trigger guard, and patch box and an attractive half stock with German silver furniture. Two screws are absent of the barrel tang. Includes a hickory ramrod.

Rating Definition:

Very fine. The rifle has little wear suggesting only very little use. The barrel retains 70% browning with an even brown patina overall with crisp markings and edges. The case hardened components retain 90% fiery case colors. The excellent stock is beautiful and smooth retaining 99% plus varnish and only minor marks.
