Description:

Measuring only 4 3/8 inches from muzzle to butt, the "peanut" Derringer was the height of compact firepower for it's day, capable of being concealed anywhere imagination and comfort would permit, while still delivering a large enough round to get the job done. Well suited for daily use, most examples are significantly worn, especially on the barrel. The streaked "bronzed" pattern, one of Derringer's signatures, was a relatively superficial treatment and did not require much wear before fading to an even gray. Fitted with a blade front sight and a notch rear sight with a "P" on the upper left breech flat and "DERINGER/PHILADELa" on top. The Derringer address is repeated on the lock, which is scroll engraved, along with the fish-scale accented hammer and several pieces of stock furniture, which is a mixture of German silver and regular silver. Checkered birds head butt with an inscription shield behind the upper tang, "8" stamped on the trigger guard and butt, and a teardrop shaped buttcap.

Rating Definition:

Extremely fine. The barrel shows over 90% of the original streaked brown finish, with some light denting on either side, and the breech plug shows a dark color overall with traces of brighter casehardening. A smooth, light gray color is showing on the hammer, lock plate and bolster with some darker areas. The stock is fine, with a 1 3/8 inch crack on the left side, mild edge wear and attractive grain. Mechanically excellent.
