Exceptional Silver Banded Henry Derringer Philadelphia Percussion Pocket Pistol

Type: Pistol
Gauge: 40
Barrel: 1 1/2 inch part octagon
Finish: brown/casehardened
Grip: walnut
Stock:
Item Views: 1227
Serial Number:
Class: Antique
Description:

Dovetailed German silver blade front and notch rear sights with a "P" and "DERINGER/PHILADELA'' on the breech between German silver bands. The barrel shows Derringer's signature striped finish; a proprietary metal treatment designed to emulate a Damascus twist pattern. A surface finish only, most surviving examples have lost this striping to wear and handling, and it is hard to find in good condition. The Derringer marking is repeated on the lock with scroll engraving on the tang, hammer and lock. Checkered birds head grip with German silver furniture with scroll engraving on the trigger guard, reverse and accent plates and on the inscription shield, blossom designs on the escutcheons, pineapple trigger guard finial, and a zig-zag bordered buttplate.

Rating Definition:

Extremely fine. The barrel shows over 95% of the original striped brown finish, with the brown color being deep and strong and the striping being well defined. The casehardened components have taken on a dark color overall with a bit of bright color on the lock plate in the area protected by the hammer. Stock is fine with some flaking of the varnish and some light dents. Mechanically excellent.
