Description:

Manufactured from 1875 to 1887, the No. 32 Standard was designed to be capable of firing both .32 long and .32 short. The rib is marked with the one line model designation and the one line New Haven address/patent marking is on the left barrel side. Blade front and frame notch sights with a five-round fluted cylinder. It features scroll engraving with pin dot background on the barrel, frame, and cylinder and is fitted with scroll patterned De Gress grips with a woman playing a tambourine on the right grip and the patent information on the left side. The style and quality of the engraving indicate that it is probably the work of Louis Daniel Nimschke's shop. This same grip pattern is fitted on a strikingly similar No. 32 Standard on page 12 of The Gun Report's article on "The DeGress 'Tiffany' Grips" from January 1972. Francis De Gress of Bloomfield, New Jersey patented his method for molded copper "pistol handles" treated with acid and then gilded with silver in 1874. Examples of his molded grips have been seen on revolvers of multiple manufacturers.

Rating Definition:

Very fine. The revolver retains 85% of the original nickel plating with minor drag lines on the cylinder and some oxidation and flash marks. All markings are clear and the engraving remains crisp. The grips are also very fine with clear designs and bright raised areas and a contrasting dark background with some dark verdigris. Mechanically excellent.
