Manufactured from the late 1860s to 1873. Silver finished brass blade sight with "SOUTHERNER" marked on the top flat of the barrel and the 3-line address and patent markings on the left flat. The barrel is finished in gold and the frame in silver; both are decorated with punch-dot backed scroll engraving with an oval panel around the patent markings and dotted checkerboard designs on top of the frame. Fitted with a checkered hammer, smooth trigger and a pair of smooth mother of pearl grips.

Fine. 30% of the original gold finish is present on the barrel, concentrated on the lower flats, with a mixed brown and gray patina on the remainder. Over half of the silver is present with visible brass on the sides, high edges and grip straps, a well aged patina on both silver and brass, and some light handling marks. The grips are very good with rust staining present on both panels with a few thin cracks visible on the butt. The extractor needs adjustment, but it is otherwise mechanically good.
