Description:

This First Type revolver has the extremely rare combination of silver plated brass frame and iron spur trigger. Only a very small number of First Type New Model Pocket Revolvers were manufactured with iron triggers. This revolver may be the best example extant. The revolver has a blued, 3 1/2 inch, octagon barrel; five-shot cylinder and loading lever; casehardened hammer; silver plated brass frame and niter blue trigger. The two-piece grips are walnut with a high polish piano finish. The top of the barrel is roll-stamped: "PATENTED SEPT. 14, 1859/E.REMINGTON & SONS.ILION. NEWYORK.U.S./NEW MODEL" in three lines. The serial number: "7593" is stamped on the underside of the barrel. The revolver is complete with a mahogany case with five compartments lined with red velvet. The case contains: (1) copper powder flask with fixed charger embossed with an Eagle and Shield, stars and "E. PLURIBUS UNUM" in a ribbon on both sides, (2) un-marked iron .31 caliber, double cavity bullet mold for balls and conical bullets, (3) key and (4) assorted .31 caliber bullets and round balls. This is an extremely rare example of a First Type Remington New Model Pocket Revolver with brass frame and iron spur trigger.

Rating Definition:

Very fine. The revolver retains nearly 90% of the original blue, casehardened and silver plated finishes. There are traces of flash pitting on several of the percussion nipples and the face of the cylinder. The barrel has some minor finish loss on the muzzle and the edges of the barrel and the cylinder has turn marks and finish wear on the shoulders. There are scattered patches of surface rust on the sides of the barrel, loading lever, cylinder and spur trigger. The hammer shows traces of surface rust. The silver-plated finish on the exterior of the brass frame is tarnished and remains nearly 98% intact. The finish has flaked on the inside of the frame, along the edge of the left recoil shield and on the edge of the butt. There is some spotting on the bottom of the frame. The grips are both in excellent condition and retain about 98% of the piano finish with some minor edge wear. The barrel markings and serial number are crisp. The action functions perfectly. The case exterior is in fine condition with minor storage marks. The interior is in good overall condition. The red velvet lining is faded and has several stains from contact with the revolver components and accessories. The flask is in fine condition with a dark patina on the body, and 60% of the gold plated finish remains on the top and charger. The iron bullet mold has a dark patina with heavy pitting on the handles and blocks. The key fits the lock properly. This is a very fine example of an extremely rare, factory cased, Remington First Type New Model Pocket Revolver.
