Description:

This is one of about 550 Second Model revolvers with the solid frame and bar type hammer manufactured by Josiah Ells of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The left side of the hammer is marked "ELLS PATENT" and the right side is marked "AUG. 1 1854/April 28 1857." A floral pattern is engraved on the frame sides, back strap, 5-shot cylinder, and top barrel flat. The matching serial number "72" is marked on the frame, hammer spring, and left grip panel.

Rating Definition:

Very fine. The revolver retains 60% of the bright original blue finish with a smooth brown patina on the balance. The engraving is crisp. The grips are fine showing some minor handling marks with most of the varnish remaining. There is slight play in the cylinder, otherwise action is excellent.
