This lot consists of a matching pair of high art Ottoman flintlock pistols with military motif, full cast and chased silver mounts. The silver mounts include the trigger guard, grip cap, side plate and large grip escutcheon. As stated, the silver mounts feature a raised military motif. The motif consists of headgear, artillery and flags. The lock plate and hammer feature a high relief chiseled pattern with gold accents. A similar high relief chiseled pattern is exhibited on the barrel tang and rear barrel section (3 1/2 inches long) with additional gold accents on the barrel. The pistol is absent of visible maker markings. The stock is adorned with silver wire inlay covering nearly the full length of the stock. The two ramrod pipes are silver and hold a wooden ramrod.

Good. The barrel and lock have a smooth coin appearance with overall minor pitting. The silver is fine with a repair on the trigger guard. The repaired stock is good with a chip missing near the lock plate, filler repair near the butt, and a few minor handling marks. The stock retains most of the revarnished finish and nearly all of the silver wire inlay. Mechanically fine. A pair of flintlock pistols that exhibit the highest quality of Ottoman Empire craftsmanship of the period.

The stock shows some chipping and a filled repair near the buttcap, a professionally replaced forearm section (4 inches) and a few minor handling marks. The stock retains most of the refinished varnish and nearly all of the silver wire inlay. Action needs some adjustment.
