This particular rifle was once owned by David Petzal the Managing Editor of Field and Stream magazine. In a letter, Mr. Petzal states that the rifle was a plain Mark V in 270 WM caliber that he hunted with in Montana in 1973. He did not care for the 270 caliber and had the rifle rebarreled at Weatherby in the current 300 magnum. He also replaced the factory trigger with a Canjar. The stock has been custom made by Winston Churchill. The stock is made of New Zealand walnut with fancy fleur-de-lis, fine 28 lpi checkering on the forearm and wrist. Ebony forend, floral scroll engraved metal grip cap and with cheekpiece. Solid Pachmayr Old English recoil pad, sling swivel studs and "D/E/P" inscribed gold initial oval. Petzal states that after the rifle was rebarreled and restocked, he never hunted with it, fired it very little and sold it sometime in the 1980s. This rifle is pictured and described on pages 41-45 of the book "Contemporary American Stockmakers" by Ron Toews, it is pictured on page 154 of "The Modern Rifle" by Jim Carmichel, and is pictured and described in two editions of Field and Stream. All the literature accompanies the rifle. The receiver has the standard markings, barrel manufactured without sights, all blue finish, jeweled bolt and follower, hinged floor plate and equipped with a Leupold M8-4X scope on Redfield bases.

Excellent. The rifle retains 99% plus original blue finish with only light handling/storage marks. The stock is also excellent with a few very minor dents and handling marks, with sharp checkering. The scope is excellent with clear optics. The action is fine. A very nice and highly publicized custom left handed Weatherby Mark V with a beautiful Winston Churchill stock. A fantastic addition to any sporting arms collection.
