Manufactured from 1913 to 1922 with a total production of only approximately 6,000, with very few having been factory engraved. This was Marlin's first slide action shotgun that was commercially sold with the hammerless design. This shotgun features a large engraved oval panel with ducks in a marsh scene on the left side of the receiver and two pigeons in flight on the right side. Both are flanked by floral scroll engraving and there is a double scallop border on each side. The upper left rear of the barrel is marked "SPECIAL SMOKELESS STEEL." over the two line address/patent dates and "12. GA." at the breech. Single brass bead front sight, matted barrel top, 2 3/4 inch chamber, choked improved modified and mounted with a nicely figured multi point checkered walnut forearm and pistol grip stock with a checkered Marlin buttplate. Length of pull is 13 3/8 inches.

Very good. The shotgun retains 25% thin original blue finish with a smooth gray patina on the balance. The wood has been freshened with a coat of varnish some time ago and remains very good with moderate (small area of heavy) wear to the checkering, and overall some minor dings and scratches. The markings are clear. Mechanically fine.
