Description:

This is an outstanding WWII Nazi J. P. Sauer and Sohn M30 Luftwaffe Survival Drilling in the original aluminum carrying/storage case that is complete with the original capture papers and numerous accessories. The capture papers are dated Feb. 1946, however, there is no name listed on the top. It is signed at the bottom "Jack R. Olderberg", who was the approving official and was probably his own personal weapons. The M30 Drilling was standard Luftwaffe issue to bomber crews in from 1941-43 and provided a high quality survival rifle for both self defense and hunting in case of a forced landing or crash. They are a three-barreled drilling/combination gun; double barrel 12 gauge shotgun, over a 9.3X74R rifle barrel. These Luftwaffe drillings exhibit the most beautiful pre-war workmanship that consists of hand-fitted parts, high polish rust blue barrel finish with a beautiful color casehardening finish on the receiver, trigger guard, forend latching mechanism and grip cap. All these Luftwaffe M30s were fitted with a select grade of European walnut stock and forend. The top of the receiver tang has a sliding barrel selector catch so that when the rifle barrel is selected the rear rifle sight is raised and engages the forward trigger for firing the rifle barrel. The receiver, trigger guard, screw heads and forend attaching iron have all been beautifully factory engraved with a diminutive high quality scroll pattern engraving. The bottom of the rear barrel lug has a single "Eagle/2" Luftwaffe acceptance proof and the underside of each barrel and chamber area each have a Commercial "Eagle/N" proofmark. Additionally, each barrel is stamped with the bore and gauge/caliber markings "12/65" and "6 41" with the shotgun and rifle barrels marked "KRUPP-LAUFSTAHL". The right rear breech area of the shotgun barrel and the right side of the buttstock are both stamped with a large, prominent, Luftwaffe "Eagle/Swastika" insignia. The barrels have a matted rib with brass rifle bead front sight and are fitted with the Greener type cross-bolt receiver/action with a side mounted safety lever. The top left edge of the receiver rail, the rear of the lower tang and the under side of the barrel set are marked with serial number "334784" and inside the forend it is numbered "4784". The underside of the receiver, and right underside of chambers have the intertwined "SS" logo "Sauer & Son" factory and both sides of the receiver are marked "J.P. SAUER & SOHN SUHL". The stock and forend are both made from select grade European walnut and both have a beautifully executed hand checkering on the pistol grip and sides of the forend. The stock has the typical, small, European, oval cheekpiece with a color casehardened grip cap and is fitted with a black plastic serrated buttplate that has the intertwined "SS" logo of the Sauer & Sohn factory in the center. These drillings were all housed in an aluminum carrying case that has the gray/green painted exterior with the inside of the having a black stenciled listing of the original contents of the case. The case includes some of the rare accessories such as an early crossed rifles/D.R.G.M. stamped leather sling, three piece wooden cleaning rod, wire cleaning brushed for the rifle and shotgun bores, 2 each bore mops, 2 each nylon bore brushes, an original 1941 dated M30 Drilling manual, a small glass bottle marked with a label for "WAFFEN-OIL" (empty), a box of original "RWS" 9,3 X 74R rifle ammunition, (the box is marked 4,0gr. Spezial-Pulver, H-Mantelgeschoss, Scharfrand, Kupferspitze, 16,7gr.) and a 10 round box of "RWS" shotgun slug ammunition. The box is marked, "Schrotpatronen Auerhahn/ Brenneke Slugs."

Rating Definition:

Excellent with 98% of the original blue finish on the barrel with just a couple of small rub spots on the left barrel where it comes in contact with the forend. The receiver, trigger guard/lower tang and attaching metal of the forend retain 85% of the original case colors with the front edges of the receiver starting to fade and silver out slightly. The stock and forend are both in excellent condition with only minor handling marks on the lower toe area and sharp checkering on the side of the forend and pistol grip area. The Luftwaffe eagle on the right side of the stock is very deep and pronounced. The case is in very fine condition with 90% plus of the original gray painted finish overall with all the interior compartments intact. The various accessories are all in excellent condition except for the cardboard box that holds the shotgun ammunition; its in good condition with the corners broken out. A truly very high condition Luftwaffe drilling with all the desirable accessories.
