Description:

An early style helmet, with the steel liner equipped with fixed rectangular chinstrap brackets, a rolled stainless steel rim with the seam positioned in the center of the brim, and the inner lining being the "Hawley fiber" style with riveted webbing. The exterior is painted a drab olive green with a textured surface and the blue and white square logo of the 3rd Infantry Division on either side. The interior of the steel is stamped "41CC2". The inner liner has a green canvas cover. The 3rd Infantry Division, aka The Rock of the Marne, was reactivated for the Second World War, and saw combat in Africa, Sicily, mainland Italy, and France including amphibious landings at Sicily, Anzio and St. Tropez. This particular helmet can be seen on the back cover of the hardback 1st Edition of "Painted Steel: Steel Pots II" by Chris Armold and also on page 138; included with the helmet is a copy, which has a signed and notarized statement on the first page from the author, who identifies this helmet as part of his personal collection.

Rating Definition:

Very good. The steel shell shows a few scuffs and dings, with bright wear on the rim and well aged brown on the rest of the exposed segments. The inner liner is fair with some tears and crushing.
