Description:

This is a nice example of 1 of the approximately 7,366 Model 1883 shotguns manufactured by Colt between 1883 and 1895. This example was manufactured in 1895 with a single brass bead on the concave, solid matte rib with single line Colt address, 2 3/4 inch chambers, and choked barrels full/improved modified with extractors. It has brown Damascus barrels and casehardened frame. "Patented AUG. 22., SEP. 19. 1882" is marked on bottom of action. Light, scallop border engraving is on the action, trigger guard, and lower tang. It is mounted with a checkered walnut forearm with ebony forend insert and pistol grip stock with a checkered, horn, Rampant Colt buttplate and silver initial oval. 14 1/4 inch length of pull.

Rating Definition:

Fine. The barrels retains 75% original brown finish with all of the Damascus pattern showing. The frame is a mix of 25% original case colors with the balance a smooth silver gray patina. Most of the original blue finish remains on the break lever, and the trigger guard retains 30% thin original blue finish with a smooth gray patina on the balance. The wood is also fine with almost all of the original varnish remaining and some scattered minor dents and dings. The checkering remains crisp. The markings are crisp and clear. Mechanically fine.
