Manufactured in 1890, Colt manufactured approximately 7,366 Model 1883 shotguns between 1883 and 1895. It has single brass bead sight on the matte dolls head extended solid rib which is marked with the one line address at the breech end. The action is engraved with a floral scroll design and a hunting dog on point on each side. The bottom plate on the action is engraved with the same design and "PATENTED/AUG. 22. SEPT. 19/1882". The engraving extends to the trigger guard, break lever and forearm hardware. There are also two ducks in flight in an oval panel on the trigger guard. The matching serial number is marked on the lower tang, water table, barrel flat, and forearm hardware. It has double triggers, brown finished Damascus barrels and casehardened remaining parts along with tang mounted automatic safety and a multi-point checkered walnut splinter forearm with ebony forend insert and round knob pistol grip stock with checkered teardrop flats, Colt embossed checkered horn buttplate and silver initial oval. 2 3/4 inch chambers, choked improved cylinder/improved modified, extractor and 14 1/4 inch length of pull.

Rating Definition:

Very good as refinished with 95% brown finish remaining with most of the faded Damascus pattern remaining. 80% bright case colors remain with areas of smooth gray patina. The replaced wood is very good as refinished with several minor dents in the forearm and overall crisp recut checkering. The forearm hardware and wood have been numbered to match. The markings and engraving are clear. Mechanically fine.
