Description:

Manufactured between 1867 and 1881 with a total production of less than 5,000. The top of the barrel is marked "PATENT MAY. 26, 74 PHOENIX. CAL. 12". The Whitney name did not appear on these shotguns. The matching serial number "6220" is marked on the lower tang, on the bottom of the barrel under the forearm, on the inside of the buttplate, on the butt of the stock and on the inside of the forearm. The bottom of the breechblock has been renumbered to match. Single brass bead sight, blue barrel, casehardened remaining parts and mounted with a smooth varnished walnut forearm and straight grip stock with an iron shotgun buttplate. The butt under the buttplate is stamped "H.G. GUENTZLER". The only thing an internet search revealed was a Henry G. Guentzler, saloon, Cincinnati, Ohio as listed 1892-1908. Length of pull is 13 5/8 inches.

Rating Definition:

Very good. The barrel has a smooth mottled brown patina and the remaining metal surfaces have a smooth mottled gray patina. The wood is good retains almost all of the original varnish, and showing scattered minor scuffs, dings and scratches. The markings are legible. The action is fine.
