This model was introduced in 1880 and manufactured until 1907 with an unknown number of guns produced probably only a few hundred. This example features windage adjustable globe front and buckhorn rear sights with barrel marked with the one line Remington Arms address on the top flat and "38-55" on the underside ahead of the forearm. Below the forearm, the barrel is marked with the serial number, the caliber a second time, and a third number (likely an assembly number). The lower left side of the receiver has the two line Hepburn 1879 patent marking, with a tall, long range folding Vernier peep sight on the tang. It has double set triggers. The lower tang is marked with the serial number. Fitted with a smooth forearm with ebony insert Schnabel tip and checkered round knob pistol grip stock with smooth steel shotgun buttplate.

Rating Definition:

Good. The rifle retains minor traces of blue with most of the barrel a mixture of brown patina and faded finish and significant finish retained in the protected area underneath the forearm and on the block. The frame, buttplate, and Vernier sight have a mix of gray and dark brown patina while the trigger guard has a smooth brown patina. The markings are legible and aside from the Hepburn patent marking, all are clear. The wood is very good with smoothed checkering as well as various minor dings and scratches. A small chip is absent on the forearm just ahead of the breech lever. Mechanically excellent.
