Description:

Freeman Army Model percussion revolver manufactured by Hoard's Armory, Watertown, New York, c. 1863-64. Hoard's Armory manufactured approximately 2,000 of these .44 caliber single action revolvers, but received no Federal contracts. The solid frame revolver has a high polish blue finish on the barrel, frame, cylinder and loading lever. The hammer is color casehardened. The two-piece black walnut grips are oil-finished. The revolver has the early style barrel with exposed threads, steel half-moon sight, sighting groove in the top strap and knurled hammer spur. The center pin latch is retained by a spring on the left side of the frame. "FREEMAN'S PAT. DECR 9 1862" is stamped on the right side of the top strap and "HOARD'S ARMORY, WATERTOWN, N.Y." is stamped on the left side. The serial number "379" is stamped on the bottom of the barrel, top of the loading lever, bottom of the frame, rear face of the cylinder, right side of the butt beneath the grips and on the inside of both grips. All of the serial numbers match. This revolver was formerly part of the Bob Howard collection.

Rating Definition:

Excellent. The revolver shows minimal wear and retains 97% plus of the original bright high polish blue finish. The hammer has 90% of the muted case colors. The grips are in very fine condition with a few minor handling marks. The factory markings and serial numbers are crisp. This is an excellent example of a low production, Civil War era, Secondary U.S. Martial revolver that was formerly part of one of the finest handgun collections in the United States.
