U.S. Army Contract Model 1871 Rolling Block Pistol manufactured by the Remington Arms Co., c. 1872. The pistol has a military blue barrel with wide base steel front sight. The frame and trigger guard are color casehardened and the hammer and breech block are finished bright. The stock and forearm are oil finished, straight grain, American walnut. The left side of the frame is roll-stamped: "REMINGTON'S ILION.N.Y. U.S.A./PAT. MAY 3D. NOV15th 1864. APRIL 17. 1866" in two lines. "P" and "S" are stamped on the left side of the frame. The Ordnance final inspection mark consisting of the script initials "CRS" enclosed in a rectangle with rounded ends is stamped on the lower left side of the grip. The Ordnance Department purchased approximately 5000 Model 1871 Rolling Block Pistols following the Civil War.

Excellent. The pistol is all original and appears to be as-issued. The barrel and frame retain 95% plus of the original military blue and color casehardened finish. The case colors on the frame, trigger guard and grip straps are vivid. The hammer and breech block retain nearly all of the original polished finish. The forearm and grip strap are in excellent original condition with some scattered minor storage marks overall. The Ordnance inspection mark on the left side of the grip is in nearly perfect condition. This is an excellent, as-issued, example of a Remington 1871 U.S. Army Rolling Block Pistol.
