Description:

Forty-four caliber percussion single-action revolver manufactured by Rogers & Spencer of Willowvale New York in 1865 as part of a contract with the Ordnance Department for 5800 revolvers. The revolver has a high polish blue finish on the barrel, frame and cylinder, casehardened loading lever, hammer and trigger and oil finished, two piece walnut grips. The top strap is marked: "ROGERS & SPENCER/UTICA N-Y". The serial number is located on the bottom of the grip strap, the cylinder, the underside of the barrel and the left side of the frame. All of the serial numbers match. A three letter script ordnance inspection mark is stamped on the lower portion of the left stock. Ordnance "B" sub-inspection marks are stamped on the barrel, frame, cylinder, hammer, trigger guard and grips.

Rating Definition:

Very fine to excellent. The revolver has 90% of the original high polish blue finish remaining. Finish loss is concentrated primarily on the grip straps, the cylinder and the bottom of the trigger guard. 90% of the muted casehardened colors are present on the loading lever, hammer and trigger. There is no flash pitting on the nipples and adjacent portions of the cylinder and the revolver appears to be unfired. The markings are extremely crisp. There are several small chips on the flared lower edges of the grips but the overall condition is excellent. The inspection stamp is very crisp. The action is tight and functions perfectly. An excellent example of a late production Civil War percussion revolver.
