Description:

Remington New Model Army Revolver manufactured in 1864. The revolver has a blue barrel frame, cylinder, loading lever and grip straps. The trigger guard is brass and the hammer and trigger have a casehardened finish. The two-piece walnut grips have an oil finish. The top of the barrel is roll-stamped: "PATENTED SEPT. 14.1858 / REMINGTON & SONS. ILION.NEWYORK. U.S.A. / NEW MODEL". The matching serial numbers are stamped on the underside of the barrel and on the left side of the grip strap. A three initial, script, Ordnance final inspection mark is stamped on the lower edge of the left grip. Single letter Ordnance sub-inspection marks are stamped on most components. The Remington New Model Army Revolver was the primary handgun issued to Federal cavalry regiments during the last two years of the Civil War, and these rugged revolvers remained in service with the regular cavalry regiments on the frontier until they were replaced with the Model 1873 Colt Cavalry Revolvers in 1875.

Rating Definition:

Very good plus. The revolver retains 20% of the original finish with portions remaining on the loading lever and right side of the frame and an otherwise mottled brown patina with scattered marks, dings, and scratches. The brass features an attractive bright aged patina. The grips are very fine with feathered grain, sharp cartouche, inspectors initials, and some minor chips on the rear lower edges and some minor scratches. Mechanically excellent.
