Very high quality, 18th century French flintlock pistol. The pistol has round smoothbore barrel and a highly figured European walnut, pin-fastened stock with highly decorated, silver butt cap, trigger guard and side plate. The ebony ramrod has a swelled horn tip. The iron lock is finished bright and engraved "Royal Sreves" ahead of the delicate, goose-neck cock. The barrel is browned and decorated with gold-washed floral designs and a prominent stand-of-arms. The cast brass, silver-plated, butt cap is decorated with the bust of a figure in a liberty cap surrounded by a wreath. The silver trigger guard finial has an elaborate pineapple shape and the bottom of the trigger guard has engraved floral edging surrounding a stand-of-arms. The silver side plate is decorated with a stylized wolf's head against a bow and quiver of arrows. Both of the previously mentioned mounts have silver hallmarks; one of which looks like a hammer, the other a bird. The silver ramrod pipes are plain. The front of the side plate and the rear of the trigger guard finial are stamped with two small, un-identified hall-marks. Two of the hall-marks are a standing bird while the others resemble a hammer. The highly figured stock is carved with raised floral decorations at the barrel tang, the edges of the trigger guard finial and at the ramrod tail pipe. The monogram "SE" is inlaid in silver wire on the grip between the barrel tang and the butt cap.

Fine. The barrel retains half of the original brown finish and gold wash. The brass, silver-plated, buttcap has 60% of the silver finish. The stock has two very old and expert repairs; one on the right side at the junction of the barrel and the stock above the tail pipe, and the other on the left side of the stock surrounding the forward pin. Both repairs are noticeable only after close inspection. The balance of the stock is in fine condition. The action of the lock is perfect. A high quality, French, Flintlock pistol in excellent condition.
