Description:

Designed for cavalry use, this short barreled flintlock has a sling ring bar attached to the brass barrel band running back to the rear side plate screw. It has brass furnishing with a bright barrel, frizzen, and lock plate. A ramrod would have been carried separately. The lock plate is marked "Mre Rle de Tulle" with a proof mark above the M. The barrel is marked "L.C." on the left above an unintelligible mark perhaps a 3,"Mle 1816 C" on the barrel tang, "1829" just above the touch hole, and "MR" just above of the frizzen. The barrel band is marked "C". Several of the screws are marked with "3" and the trigger guard is marked at the front a "D". The trigger tang has another "D" and a "C" while the stock is marked "26" just behind the "C". The half stock has a groove on the left side of the butt. One lock plate fitting is missing in between the pan and cock.

Rating Definition:

Fine. The gun features a mottled gray patina on the barrel, lock plate, cock, and frizzen with some minor scratches and marks. The brass has an attractive bright aged patina with some minor marks and minor pitting on the buttplate. The stock is fine with scattered minor marks, dings, and scratches. Mechanically excellent.
