Description:

According to factory records (copy of Jinks letter included) this revolver was shipped out on February 25, 1888 to a "Mr. L. Winter", address unknown. This is a very intriguing example of a New Model No. 3 Target revolver which features the special order trigger spur commonly associated with the Russian models with also found popularity with target shooters. The revolver also appears to have been returned to the factory to be fitted for a shoulder stock as the slot on the butt is cut through the serial number. The inside of the left grip frame was then restamped with the serial number "463". As Mr. Jink says in the included copy of the factory letter: "I have no information which can shed any light on why, when your gun was cut for a stock. Any statement that I could make would be purely conjecture." The quality of the work would appear to be that of the factory. Polished bead blade front and adjustable "U" notch rear sights, with the two-line address and patent dates on top of the rib, matching numbers on the barrel and cylinder, casehardened hammer and trigger, and a pair of checkered Smith & Wesson logo grips. With a hardwood shoulder stock, fitted with an unmarked nickel finished mounting iron and a checkered hard rubber buttplate with S&W logo imprint.

Rating Definition:

Excellent, with 95% of the original nickel finish, showing some light flaking and spotting overall and mild handling marks. The case colors are mostly silver, with some hints of the original pattern, and no serial number is present on the latch. Grips are very good, with minor pressure dents. The stock is excellent. Mechanically excellent.
