Description:

Nearly one third of all New Model 3 revolvers were exported to Japan for military use. This revolver was likely once shipped by Takata & Co. to the Toyokawa Naval Base given the combination of 6 1/2 inch barrel length and the plain anchor stamped on the butt after the serial number. It has a half-moon blade front sight and notch rear sight. The two-line address and patent information is marked on the top of the rib. The matching serial number is marked on the barrel, latch, butt, and on the underside of the left grip panel. The cylinder is numbered "26873"; it was not uncommon for the Japanese Navy revolver to have mismatched cylinders. The grips are checkered walnut.

Rating Definition:

Fine. The revolver retains 45% original blue finish reserved to the frame and sheltered areas of the barrel, typical of holster wear. The balance is now a mottled brown patina. The hammer shows traces of the original case colors. The walnut grips are fine with some pressure marks and scratches. The inside of the left grip panel is cracked and appears to have been repaired previously. The anchor is partially faded but visible and the rest of the markings are clear. Mechanically excellent. Overall, a rare Japanese Contract New Model No. 3 which came back to the States in limited quantities.
