Description:

Signed in engraved script on the silvered compass face "Blattner & Adam, St, Louis, Mo” (1872-1880). The compass is 15 1/2 inch long with two opposed level bubbles. This is a 6 3/4 inch diameter silver finished compass. The mainplate has both a variation index and chain counter. It has a detachable peephole arm on each side, two spirit levels and a set of fine adjustment/lockout screws on the underside. The compass is complete with original case, both sight-vanes, compass cover, ball-and-socket Jacobs staff mount, Jacobs staff, and a surveyor’s chain.

Rating Definition:

Very good. The compass has traces of the original lacquer and the compass face retains the silvered surface. One mounting screw is absent from the underside of the body along with a few mild handling marks. The original wooden case is good showing a repaired crack and overall wear. The compass and levels are both functional.
