Description:

Signed in engraved script on the decoratively-engraved and silvered compass face "Troughton & Simms London”. This instrument has a 20 inch long main tube with rack-and-pinion internal focus. The magnetic compass is 4 1/4 inch in diameter and is attached to the base-plate by four turned pillars. Atop the telescope and under the compass is a 12 inch long level bubble. The entire instrument attaches to a four-screw leveling base. Included is a 90 degree angle eyepiece and adjusting tool. The original mahogany box is 24 1/2 inches long.

Rating Definition:

Very good with a mixed patina, a majority of the original lacquered finish and mild handling marks overall. The spirit level and compass are in good order. Optics are dark and fuzzy. Case is good with a repaired crack, along with a number of other cracks and minor scuffs.
