Manufactured in Italy, the Famars shotgun is one of the worlds finest, and was available on a custom order basis only. The company was founded in 1967 and as of May 2013 was no longer in business. This matching pair of consecutively serial numbered shotguns feature fine floral scroll and floral design engraving on the frame, side locks and forearm hardware. The hammers and trigger guard have the fine scroll engraving pattern. The left lock has a gold inlaid "Famars" in a banner and "Cardone V.T." in a banner on the right lock. The break lever has a gold inlaid crown and the Roman numeral "I" (this shotgun) and "II" (B shotgun). The break lever handle is a skeletonized sea serpent. The underside of the frame has gold inlaid "Famars". There is a blank shield on the trigger guard. There is a single brass bead sight on the smooth concave solid rib which is marked in gold "Armi Famars". There is a gold inlaid Roman numeral "I" and "II", two gold thin wire bands around the breech end of the barrels, and a single wire band around the muzzle. The matching serial number is marked on the lower tang, barrel flat, water table and forearm hardware. The barrels are brown and the remaining parts are coin. Single trigger. Mounted with a nicely figured multi point finely checkered walnut forearm, and straight grip stock with teardrop flats and a vented Levriero recoil pad. The forearm has a gold inset Famars crown/shield logo and the Roman numeral "I" and "II" respectively. Choked modified/full, 3 inch chambers with ejector. The pair come in a hard leather takedown case with brass hardware, leather straps, handle and red lining, with a gold embossed Famars logo on the inside of the lid. There are 4 snap caps in the case. Measurements: Weight - 7 pounds 5.4 ounces, length of pull - 14 inches, drop at comb - 1 3/8 inches, drop at heel - 2 1/4 inches.

Rating Definition:

Excellent. The barrels retain 97% original brown finish with some mild thinning and a few minor scratches. The remaining metal surfaces retain 98% original coin finish with a couple of very small areas of oxidation on the left fence. All of the gold inlay remains. The wood is also excellent with light handling marks and sharp checkering. The recoil pad is beginning to dry out on the edges and is sowing some minor cracking. The engraving is crisp. Mechanically excellent. The case is very good with some minor corner wear and a few minor scratches in the leather exterior. The lining shows some stains.
