Description:

Manufactured after 1939, when Richard Marholdt took control of the Peterlongo arms manufactory in Tyrol. The rifle barrel is 25 1/2 inches long and is fitted with a raised white bead front sight and a 3-leaf (2 folding, one fixed) rear sight with a set of claw mounts on the rear of the rib, and the shotgun barrel is 27 1/2 inches and has a pair of white bead sights. Both barrels have a band of light engraving around the breech, "BOHLER BLITZ-STAHL" markings on the underside, gold washed ejectors, caliber/gauge markings, matching numbers, sling swivel bases and a fancy walnut forearm with engraved hardware and a jewelled underside to the mounting iron. Gold wash is also present on the frame ejector hardware, the firing pin bushings and both triggers. The frame shows nearly 100% engraving coverage, with floral designs on the screws and pins, fine scrollwork overall and the gold-inlaid initials "FJD" on the the triggerguard. Each lockplate shows a deeply carved game scene, with the left showing a pair of moose, male and female, standing in a winter woodland, and the right shows a doe being taken down and eaten by a brown bear. Checkered pistol grip stock, with deeply carved floral designs flanking the checkering, a checkerboard engraved steel gripcap, raised shadow-line cheekpiece and an unmarked solid recoil pad. With a red felt lined brown leather case, four snap caps, and a Zeiss Diavari-C 1.5-4.5x18 variable power scope with lightly engraved claw rings. Measurements: weight - frame/stock 3 pounds 2.8 ounces, shotgun barrel/forearm 3 pounds 11.8 ounces, rifle barrel/forearm 5 pounds 9.2 ounces, choke - improved cylinder/modified, chambers - 3 inches, drop at comb - 1 1/4 inches, drop at heel - 2 1/2 inches, length of pull - 14 1/4 inches to end of pad, 13 1/8 inches to end of wood.

Rating Definition:

Excellent, with 98% of the original blue finish, showing a few minor handling marks overall. The frame and locks show an excellent satin gray, and around 80% original gold remains on the gilt components. The stock is excellent, with a few light dents. The wood carving and the lock engraving is all very sharp, with the details on the game scenes being especially great. Optics are sharp and clear, with a small touched-up spot on the exterior ahead of the front ring. Case is very good, with some scuffing. Mechanically very good.
