Description:

This is an excellent example of a rare pre-WWII Steyr-Solothurn MP-34 SMG. These early SMGs are a marvel of machining and manufacturing, produced when every part was completely machined and hand fitted. This model was originally developed in Germany in the 1920s, manufactured by Solothurn in Switzerland who was owned by the German firm of Rheinmetall. A later version was adopted by the Austrian Army in 1934 and eventually by the German Army in 1939/40. It has a beautifully machined one piece receiver, barrel jacket and magazine well with the early clip-charger bracket assembly on top of the magazine housing. It also has the early sliding safety on the top cover with a safety notch on the right side of the receiver for the bolt handle. They were fitted it a walnut stock, and fired from a open bolt in a blow-back operated manner at a cyclic rate of approximately 550 rpm in both a semi and fully automatic mode. It has a rifle type tangent rear sight graduated from "50-500" meters with a blade front sight and a side mounted bayonet lug. These were later replaced by the MP38 and MP40s. It is complete with an original bayonet for this model that is marked "SIMSON & Co./Suhl" and three extra rare stick magazine in an original leather pouch.

Rating Definition:
