Description:

This is a very nice example of a super rare pre-War Erma EMP submachine gun. This style of sub-machine gun was designed by Henrich Vollmer in the late 1920s and subsequently manufactured by the Erma Machine factory in the early 1930s. This design was widely used by the early Nazi Police and paramilitary units and even during the Spanish Civil War from 1936-1939. The nomenclature for this weapon, "EMP" actually stands for Erma-Machinepistole and was made at the old Erfurt factory in Thuringen. The rear of the receiver is marked with a small single "Eagle/N" proof mark along with "E M P" over the serial number. This is a later pattern SMG with the short two position rear sight for 100 and 200 meters and has the standard slotted barrel jacket and solid walnut one-piece stock with the vertical foregrip. It has the two position (full and semi-automatic) selector switch on right side of the trigger guard. The two piece bolt, barrel jacket and magazine housing are all correctly numbered "931". It has a blued finish and a bright polished bolt. This lot does not include a magazine. As noted this weapon is registered as a Class III/NFA weapon which has been deactivated by welding a plug in the chamber of the barrel and then to the side wall of the receiver.

Rating Definition:

Fine as deactivated with 70% of the original blue finish overall with wear and thinning of the blue on the top rear portion of the receiver. The bolt is still in it original in the white condition. The walnut stock is in fine condition with it nice original dark brown color overall with handling marks and light pressure dents overall from field use. NOTE: This item is restricted as a National Firearms Act (NFA), Fully Automatic Weapon that is currently registered with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (BATF&E) that has been classified as a "Curios or Relic" as defined in 27 CFR, 478.11. These weapons are still subject to the provisions of 18 U.S.C. Chapter 44 and 27 CFR part 478.
