Smith & Wesson Model 1917 D.A. revolver manufactured in early 1918 and stamped with the "GHS" monogram used as a final inspection mark on S&W revolvers until April 1918. The pistol has the S&W bright polish blue finish with color casehardened trigger, hammer and lanyard swivel. The two-piece walnut grips are oil finished. The butt is roll-stamped: U.S./ARMY/MODEL/1917" behind the lanyard swivel and "NO./29/115" in front of it. The grip is numbered "139736" in pencil under right panel. S&W manufactured 163,635 Model 1917 revolvers under government contract between October 1917 and January 1919. These high quality revolvers were used extensively during both World War I and World War II.

Rating Definition:

Very fine. The revolver retains 95% of the original blue and color case-hardened finish. Wear is limited to numerous light scratches present on the barrel and frame some minor edge wear. The actions functions perfectly. The undersize replacement grips are in very good condition with a few minor handling marks. This is an excellent example of an important U.S. combat revolver.
