Designed by Reed Knight using the Stoner gas system like the M16 family of rifles, only in 7.62 NATO. Introduced in 1990, the SR-25 served as the basis for the U.S. Army M110 and the U.S.M.C. Mk 11 Mod 0 sniper rifles. These have the same configuration, safety and handling techniques as the M16/M4. It is fitted with a heavy free-floating target weight barrel with a low profile front gas block. The upper receiver and handguard also has the Picatinny rail on top, with the additional rails on the three other sides of the handguard. The lower receiver has the makers (KAC) markings on the magazine well, with fold down trigger guard. It has a three position sliding buttstock with storage compartments on each side of the stock. It includes two detachable sling swivels, one 20 round magazine, factory test target and a very detailed operators manual.
