Description:

This is a nice example of a early Austrian or German drilling. Since it is unmarked it is probably a guild gun built after WWI. It has a box lock action with a tang safety selector, Greener type safety, cocking indicator pins and set trigger for rifle. Both sides of the receiver are beautifully engraved with deep relief full coverage floral and game scenes with deer in a wooded scene on both sides. It has a solid matte rib with a beaded blade front sight and a folding leaf rear. The breech end of the barrels is marked "KRUPP/STAHL" and have light engraving. The 16 gauge shotgun barrels are choked improved modified/extra full and chambered 2 3/4 inch with an extractor. The rifle barrel is marked "7.8mm", however the consignor notes state it is 303 British caliber. The barrel gauges at 30 caliber. The barrel flats and underside of the barrels are marked with various German proof marks, included nitro proofed, "KRUPP ESSEN" and "KRUPPS STAHL". Mounted with a multi-point checked walnut splinter forearm with engraved hardware, and a pistol grip stock with a horn grip cap, horn trigger guard, cheek piece, relief engraved cartridge compartment, serrated horn buttplate and sling swivel. Length of pull is 13 1/4 inches.

Rating Definition:

Very good as partially refinished, the barrels, which retain 98% blue finish. The action has 30% case colors with the balance a smooth gray patina. The upper tang retains most of the original bright case colors. The revarnished wood is also very good with some scattered minor dents, dings and bruising in the otherwise crisp checkering. The engraving is crisp. The mechanics are fine.
