Description:

This Winchester Model 1873 saddle ring carbine was manufactured in 1912. The barrel is equipped with a pinned blade front sight and folding rear sight graduated to "20". The top barrel flat is marked with the two-line address/King's Improvement patent markings ahead of the rear sight and the caliber markings "44 W.C.F." on the upper left flat at the breech. The Winchester oval proofmark is stamped on the top of the barrel and receiver at the breech. "44 CAL." is engraved on the bottom of the brass cartridge elevator. The top of the receiver tang is roll-stamped: "MODEL 1873 / -WINCHESTER- / Trade Mark". It is mounted with a smooth walnut forearm and straight grip stock with a single barrel band and crescent buttplate with storage compartment (cleaning rod not included). There is a "6" marked on the left side of the buttstock.

Rating Definition:

Good. The carbine has an even brown patina overall with some scattered light pitting. Where the saddle ring has rubbed, the receiver is brighter, and slightly above this area is a series of small marks. The elevator and buttplate compartment door are an aged mustard yellow. The wood is good with a small crack at the right front of and scrapes/chips at the left rear of the forearm. The buttstock has some marks along the rear edges. Mechanically fine.
