Description:

This is a scarce example of a WWII 1944 production British Enfield No. 4 MK 1 (T) sniper rifle that has been fitted with a No. 32 MK 2/1 telescope. There were approximately 26,000 of these rifles manufactured and they were the standard issue British sniper rifle. This style of rifle was developed in the late 1930s. These rifles were used through Korea and into the early 1960s when it was replaced by the L42 model. The left side of the butt socket is marked "M47 C/1944/ENGLAND/C34899/TR". Blade front sight with ear protectors and an elevation adjustable folding rear sight. There is a No. 32 MK 2/1 telescope serial number "395" fitted to a quick detachable mount marked with the matching serial number on the side. Mounted on a semi-straight grip walnut stock marked "S51" on the bottom with proofmarks on the bottom of the wrist, "395" on top of the wrist and the matching serial number on the forward underside of the forearm. There is a correct removable screw-on birch cheekpiece, sling swivels, an aluminum buttplate with trapdoor (empty). With one magazine, correct unmarked U.S. Model 1907 leather sling, leather lens covers, a green scope storage container with matching serial number, leather shoulder strap and scope number label, and adjusting label on the inside of the lid and an original British No.25 wooden storage chest with unreadable red stenciling on the outside of the lid and equipment/care of equipment label on the inside of the lid.

Rating Definition:

Excellent. The rifle retains 97% arsenal phosphate and black finish. The magazine retains 50% plus original black finish mixed with a smooth gray patina. The wood is also excellent with some scattered minor dings and dents associated with a military rifle. The sling is very good with some minor wear. The markings are clear. The action is excellent. The scope is fine with clear optics showing some wear on the adjusting knobs. The scope case is very good with some minor paint loss, clear markings and intact labels. The wooden case is good with some scuffs and paint loss, and part of one of the carrying straps absent. There is a small portion of the inside label worn.
