This is a very fine example of a Mauser Model 1896 wartime commercial Broomhandle pistol that is complete with a combination wooden shoulder stock/holster with the leather carrier. The chamber area of the frame is marked with the standard three-line: "WAFFENFABRIK/MAUSER/OBERNDORF A/N" markings. The left side of the upper receiver has the standard "Crown/Crown/U" proof mark with a "Crown/D" military proof on the right side, with a small letter "M" Mauser proof on the underside of the barrel and standard fixed front sight, with the adjustable rear sight graduated from 50 to 1000 meters and later "NS" marked hammer. 32 groove grip panels. The right side rear milled panel has the standard Mauser two line factory address. It has the standard fixed front sight with the tangent rear sight graduated from "50-1000" meters. It is fitted with a lanyard loop stud and ring on the bottom of the butt. It has the standard serrated walnut grips. The upper rear frame area of the grip was either a bad factory casting or was damaged and repaired at some point, as it has a slight hump that has been polished down. The left side of the grip strap, under the grip is stamped: "PDHSC/RALEIGH NC". It is complete with an original non-matching walnut combination shoulder stock/holster that is numbered "222" on top of the attaching iron. The stock has the leather carrier that is marked on the back side: "L.RITGEN/KARLSRUHE /1917".

Very fine with 85% plus of the original blue finish overall with wear and blue loss on the edges and high spots with general light thinning overall. The grips are also in very fine condition with nice distinct serrations on the sides, showing minor handling marks overall. The reoiled stock has a nice darker color overall with three deep pressure dents present on the left side. The metal parts all retain 90% of their blued finish. The leather carrier is in very good condition with nice distinct markings on the back side with tight stitching overall. It is missing the upper leather loop that holds the handle of the cleaning rod. The pistol has all matching numbers except the stock iron as noted.
