Description:

Less than 100 of these pistols are estimated to have been manufactured in 1875 and few are known to still exist. This example is marked with the two-line Stevens address and 1864 patent marking on the top of the barrel and has "74" on the left side of the barrel and grip frame and penciled on the underside of the smooth bird's head grips. It has a round German silver blade front sight. The barrel is blued. The frame is nickel plated and the trigger and hammer are nitre blued. It is interesting that Stevens produced so few .41 rimfire derringers given how popular the cartridge was with other companies including Colt and Remington.

Rating Definition:

Fine. 98% of the original nickel plating remains on the frame while 30% plus of the original blue and niter blue finish remains on the other components. There is some light oxidation and pitting on the round section of the barrel and scattered scratches throughout. One of the frame screws (trigger) is a replacement. The grips are very good with mild scraps, dings and extensive handling wear. The action functions perfectly and the markings are mostly crisp. This is an extraordinary find and is one of the rarest of all Stevens' firearms.
