Description:

This is an example of a highly desirable Colt First Model Dragoon revolver that was manufactured in 1848, the first year of production. Only approximately 7,000 of these revolvers were manufactured from 1848 through 1849. The revolver has the distinctive First Model oval cylinder stops and brass, square back trigger guard. The top of the barrel flat is marked "ADDRESS SAMl COLT NEW-YORK CITY" reading from the breech to the muzzle. The left side of the loading lever has a small "N", and the complete matching serial number is marked on the barrel, frame, cylinder, trigger guard, back strap, and loading lever. The partial serial number "939" is marked on the wedge and cylinder pin. Fitted with a smooth one piece walnut grip. The lack of visible inspection markings and traces of silver plating on the grip frame suggest it was sold commercially. It has standard vertical loading lever latch.

Rating Definition:

Fair. The metal surfaces have a dark patina with a few minor dents, some very light spotting and a small amount of very minor pitting. The brass appears to have been polished recently and there are strong traces of original silver plating in protected areas. There are a number of small dings on the butt. The grip is good with a chip and rounding of the toes, rounding of the lower edge and a few minor dings. The barrel marking and serial numbers are clear. The cylinder scene and left side frame marking are not visible. The action is fine. A solid representative example of a desirable First Model Dragoon.
