Description:

Manufactured circa 1860 by Tipping & Lawden with "SHARPS PATENT" on the left side around the hammer screw. Above the hammer screw part of the "TIPPING & LAWDEN" marking remains visible but most is obscured by the engraving. "E.M. REILLY & CO., LONDON" is inscribed on top between the upper barrels. It is engraved with intricate British scrollwork and punch dot patterns and has a set of floral pattern gutta-percha grips. The serial number is marked behind the spur trigger, and there are small British proofs between the barrels. It comes in a fitted hardwood case with E. M. Reilly & Co. interior label and a small oiler.

Rating Definition:

Fine. Traces of blue finish remain in the protected areas of the barrel group. The exposed iron surfaces have a gray patina. The brass has a mildly aged patina. The grips are very good with attractive designs, some slight warping, and minor marks. The engraving and markings are crisp. The action is fine. The case exterior is very good with mild storage wear. The otherwise good interior ihas a broken and loose absentpiece and minor staining.
