Colt only manufactured approximately 7,366 Model 1883 shotguns between 1883 and 1895. This example was manufactured in 1890 and features a single brass bead sight on the "COLTS PT F A MFG CO HARTFORD CT U S A" marked solid rib. The action has lightly engraved borders and accents. The bottom of the action is marked in script: "PATENTED/AUG 22. SEP 19.1882". The basic, lowest grade engraving patterns extend to the trigger guard, break lever and forearm hardware. The matching serial number is marked on the lower tang, water table, barrel flat, forearm, and forearm hardware. Additional features include double triggers, a tang mounted automatic safety and a multi-point checkered walnut splinter forearm with ebony forend insert and round knob pistol grip stock with a Colt embossed checkered hard rubber buttplate and silver initial oval. The chambers measure 2 3/4 inches and have an extractor. The barrels are choked modified and improved modified, and the length of pull is 13 3/8 inches.

Very good. Most of the surfaces are an even silver-gray patina. There are some traces of original case colors on the sides of the action and in the protected areas, and the barrels display attractive English twist patterns. There is some light pitting on the trigger guard and a few mild patches on the barrels. The buttstock is fine, the forearm is fair with some slight cracks on the tip, some minor smoothing of the checkering, and various small dings and minor scratches. Mechanically excellent and has crisp markings.
