Description:

This revolver was manufactured in 1874. The barrel is marked with "+COLT'S PT. F.A. MFG. Co. HARTFORD, CT. U.S.A.+" on top and is equipped with a blade front sight. The frame has the two-line 1871 and 1872 patent dates followed by "U.S." on the left side. All of the visible serial numbers match; however, the numbers on the cylinder are slightly different style than the other components. The barrel is numbered "5614" under the replacement later style ejector housing (where someone could source an original length early production Colt SAA barrel is unique in itself!) It is fitted with a varnished one piece grip and has the early features. There are small "A" inspection marks on several components, a "P" on the underside of the barrel, and a "C" in the hammer well. Some of these early revolvers were issued to Custer's men prior to the Battle of Little Bighorn and were issued to other cavalry units fighting in the Indian Wars.

Rating Definition:

Good as assembled/rebarreled and fitted with a refinished and re-marked cylinder. The balance of revolver has a gray patina overall with spots of mostly light pitting, a few moderate pitting, various dings and scratches, and some traces of original finish. The varnished grip is fair with moderate edge wear and some scratches. The action functions fine.
