Description:

This U.S. Colt Single Action Revolver was originally manufactured in 1883 (frame) as a Cavalry Model and was subsequently Springfield Armory or Colt factory refurbished to "Artillery" configuration with a 5 1/2 inch barrel circa 1895-96. The revolver has the non-matching serial numbers typical of these conversions. The barrel has the standard blade front sight, one line address, and a small "P" just ahead of the cylinder pin. The frame has the three line patent information ahead of "U.S" on the left side and a "D.F.C." inspector's mark of David F. Clark ahead of the serial number on the bottom. "D.F.C." is also on the cylinder. It has the standard frame groove rear sight and a smooth walnut grip.

Rating Definition:

Fine with replaced grip. Traces of original blue finish remain primarily in the protected areas and strong case colors remain in the recesses and protected areas of the frame. The balance has a gray patina. There are a few small spots of oxidation limited primarily to the hammer. The action is functional but needs some work; when the hammer is in the loading position the cylinder the bolt engages the next cylinder stop instead of allowing the cylinder to rotate freely. Some of the markings are faint. The oversize modern replacement grip is fair with only minor handling and storage marks.
