Description:

Only 4,500-5,000 total First Model revolvers were manufactured in 1857-1858. These were the first Remington revolvers and were produced upon the expiration of Colt's master patent. This example is a Third Issue. The top barrel flat has the standard two-line Beals patent dates (56 & 57), and the top strap has the two-line Remington address marking. The serial number is stamped on the barrel, bottom of the grip, and left side of the grip frame. It has a German silver round blade front sight and trigger guard, and a groove in the hump on the back strap for a rear sight. It comes with an antique box with some period markings on the bottom, a small powder flask, cleaning rod and bullet seater.

Rating Definition:

Very fine. 90% plus of the bright original blue finish remains on the barrel. The cylinder retains 30% of the more dull original blue and the frame retains 25% of the bright original blue finish, primarily in the protected areas. The balance has a gray-brown patina and some spots of minor oxidation. The grip is very good with an aged brown tone and minor marks. The action functions very well and the markings are clear. The box is good with separation at the corners, edge wear and one flap absent. The tools are fine.
