This pair of elaborate double barrel pistols are marked "FILLON ARQUEBUSIER/DU PARIS" in two lines on each of the locks and have the same inlaid in gold in a single line on the ribs. There is a large space between "DU" and "PARIS" where the marking "ROI" for King was previously marked. The pair were likely produced during the late 18th century; the marking "ROI" was likely removed during the French Revolution. In "Heer Der Neue Stockel", Fillon Langumier & Autellet are listed in Paris 1785-1790 and Fillon & Langumier are listed in 1796-1805 at the Manufacture d'Armes de Versailles. Elsewhere Louis Fidele Fillon is recorded as having become a master gunsmith in 1770 and as having started his partnership with Langumier in 1779. The pair was produced in the era of the American Revolution given the Parisian hallmarks from 1781. They have blade front and dished rear sights, gold inlay burst designs around the front sights, pairs of panoplies of arms near the gold inlaid breeches, a gold inlaid stamp on each barrel on top at the breech, and three gold inlaid bands at the muzzles. The bores are smooth. The full length French walnut stocks have raised relief floral carving, tear drop flats, and raise relief engraved silver furniture with designs that coordinate with the carving beautifully. The trigger guard finial has a torch design. The inside of the trigger guard have two stamps each. The the bottom of the buttcaps have bombs with four radiating flames and and four sets of radiating serrations. The symbol of the fireball/grenade has been used to symbolize those who have experienced the terror of being under siege or survived bombardment in battle. The pair was formerly part of the "Armes Anciennes" Collection of Charles Draeger.

Rating Definition:

Very fine. 85% plus of the gold and blue finish remain. The locks remain mostly bright with some light patination overall and strike marks on the frizzens from use, and the silver furniture has an attractive aged patina. The stock is also very fine with minor scratches and pressure marks, crisp carving with distinct details. The locks function very well.
