Barrel: 10 inch part octagon
Finish: bright

Stock: walnut
Item Views: 1480

Description:

This pistol has a part octagon, part round barrel with wedding band transition, no sights, and no visible maker's marks. The other components including the lock have numerous engraving designs including human and animal heads along with scrollwork. The full length stock is heavily carved and an iron ramrod is fitted beneath the barrel. The snaphaunce mechanism was introduced around 1550 and largely replaced in Europe by the true flintlock mechanism in the 1650s. However, it remained in use in Italy for another century and was even used on North African firearms into the 20th century.

Rating Definition:

Good. The metal components have primarily gray patina with some areas turning brown. There are areas of primarily light pitting. The stock is also good with some chipping at the edges including some large chips ahead of the lock inlet. The carving and engraving designs are worn but mostly legible. The lock functions fine.
