Description:

The Adams "Self Cocking" revolver was designed to be used in double action only. The Adams and its descendants in Europe spelled doom for Samuel Colt's European sales. This Adams patent revolver was manufactured by Auguste Francotte in Belgium as demonstrated by the Liege proofmarks and "crown/AF" markings. The top strap reads "MANUFD BY A.F. LICENSED BY/ DEANE ADAMS & DEANE LONDON," and the barrel is marked in matching script with "FNI PAR LEPAGE MOUTIER A PARIS." The right side of the frame is marked "ADAMS PATENT [crown/AF proof] 7084." The cylinder is also marked "7084," and the left side of the frame has an additional "ADAMS/PATENT" stamp. There is some scrollwork engraving on the rear sections of the frame, breech end of the barrel, the trigger guard, and the buttcap. The latter has a cap compartment. It is equipped with blade front and rear sights and is fitted with a one piece walnut grip that is finely checkered. It comes in a hardwood case with fitted interior containing a lead ball, loading rod, cleaning rod, wrench, tin of percussion caps, and a key. The inside of the lid has a Lepage-Moutier label.

Rating Definition:

Good as period refinished. The revolver retains traces of the blue finish with the balance a mix of gray patina and bright surfaces with some patches of mild pitting most notably on the cylinder and at the muzzle. The reoiled grip is very good with crisp checkering and only mild handling marks. The action is fine. Most of the markings are clear. The relined case and accessories are good with some separation in the lower panels and some general storage wear with the round plague loose from case lid.
