Description:

This pair of pistols has smoothbore barrels fitted with dovetailed, German silver blade front sights. The breeches have fixed notch rear sights and are marked "PHILADA." The back action lock plates are marked "R. CONSTABLE" near the top. Richard Constable's shop was located at 88 South Second Street in Philadelphia from 1814 to 1845 or 1851 and is known to have made high quality flintlock and percussion dueling pistols. Matching serial numbers are marked on the bottom of the barrels and the breech plugs. The stocks are half length with horn forend caps, checkered grip sections, and flat butts. The trigger guards are spurred. Both pistols have wooden ramrods with reinforced tips. The rod with gun B has a worm on the opposite end. The pair come in a late glass top display case.

Rating Definition:

Very fine. 85% plus of the original plum brown finish, most of the muted case colors, and 40% of the original blue finish remains. There are some minor marks and dings. The stock is also very fine with crisp checkering and a few minor pressure marks and scratches. The lock functions excellently, and the markings are crisp. The case is fine with moderate storage wear.

Rating Definition:

Very fine. 75% plus of the original plum brown finish, most of the partially faded case colors, and 50% of the original blue finish remains. There are some minor marks and dings and small patches of light pitting. The stock is also very fine with crisp checkering and a few minor pressure marks and scratches. The lock functions excellently, and the markings are crisp. The case is fine with moderate storage wear.
